On the US homefront, Americans had become increasingly distrustful of their government officials. On the Vietnamese homefront, the North and the South Vietnamese have become a unified and independent nation.

Another Answer:

It contributed somewhat to the fall of communism. The Soviet Union diverted billions of dollars of resources to assist the North Vietnamese. Resources that were basically squandered by their allies. Resources that were badly needed by the Soviet Union itself.

One good thing that came out of the Vietnam War was further study into psychology and understanding of PTSS or PTSD (post-traumatic stress syndrome/disorder)

feel free to improve people. :)

Also the US Military learned a lot of new tactics, techniques and procedures for fighting in a jungle environment and how to fight an insurgency.

We also learned a lot about the political will of the American people and politicians.

ahh the Vietnam war finally a good question on this topic. the Vietnam war was the most controversial war i think in the history of the world. at this time America was int the cold war against the soviet union and communism. we had a policy going on called containment which was America trying to stop communism without combat. soviet union was a nuclear power, but so were we. we didnt want a nuclear war. so the us and the union would go after different countrys tring to get them to their own side. same was the case in Vietnam. it had split to north and south. north communist, south democratic. we joined the fight to keep the south the way it was. they say its so bad because we didnt no who the enemy was.Because in 1956,Vietnam signed Genèva Peace Treaty and there would be a election. The winner will be the new leader of Vietnam,Ho Chi Minh or Ngo Dinh Diem. But we decieded to break it.Because obviously,Ho Chi Minh will win,Vietnam will become a Communist country, then we have to make war and help the South not become Communist. But the North, they thinked we invade them and stop them from uniting the country. So its really all about you and what you feel. me i say it wasnt a great thing but some of the things that happened to the soldiers i war cams were awful.

Guns & Jet Aerial Combat Schools: Top Gun (USN) & RED FLAG (USAF).

Today (21st century) all US jet fighter aircraft have guns on them; thanks to the Vietnam War.
