The http://www.answers.com/topic/new-york-city-subway system is one of the few to run nonstop, day and night, 365 days a year. More than five million commuters ride the subway every weekday, nearly three million on Saturdays and almost two-and-a-half million on Sundays. The first underground line of New York's http://www.answers.com/topic/rapid-transit subway system opened one hundred and five years ago today. Its first route ran from http://www.answers.com/topic/new-york-city-hall to W. 145th Street. Some of the ceramic tile art work which decorated the station at the subway's opening still exists today. Paintings, sculptures, mosaics and murals continue to decorate the subway lines and stations. Musicians and street entertainers provide entertainment at the stations. Competing for high-traffic locations for their performances, they audition through the http://www.answers.com/topic/music-under-new-york program. http://reference.answers.com/ http://reference.answers.com/

President Wilson persuaded the public for war by declaring his twin goals of "a war to end war" and a crusade "to make the world safe for democracy." He argued that America only fought to shape an international order in which democracy could flourish without fear of dictators and militarists. In this way, Wilson was able to change his previously isolationist platform and convince Americans to support the war. However, the US reverted to isolationism after World War I and was reluctant (again) to enter World War II just 20 years later.
