Even before the end of World War II, in 1945, there were concerns as the Soviet armies captured large sections of Eastern Europe from the Germans. These countries would become a de facto empire as satellite countries with the USSR bloc.

With the end of the war, the lines were drawn between communist states and capitalist states. In the "Cold War" (~1945 to 1989), each side sought to gain some advantage. The weapons included small wars, coalitions, economic and military aid, Propaganda, espionage, and technology.
