In reality, the term used should have been "Hot Battles" of the cold war. It takes a series of battles to make a war. Seldom is a War only one Battle.

The Korean War and the Vietnam War were HOT BATTLES of the Cold War. Hot battles are shooting wars; Cold War means NO shooting.

There was also Central America that was involved in the hotspot of the cold war. While US forces were not directly involved in those the US did try to influence the outcome by selling/giving weaponry and other supplies to those that were fighting against the communists.
