Factors:
Competition for colonies between the European Powers, Japan, and U.S.
Economic Reasons for this are: the need of raw materials for industrial production, and goods can be sold at the markets. Political Reasons are: for harbors, ports, naval bases and Germany is trying to reduce France's hatred for them by giving them land and letting them use their navy (to get colonies). France hates Germany because Germany acquired some of their precious territories in the past. The Cultural Factors were that (U.S.) West believed they were superior to the East, and this brought on Social Darwinism "Racism". Noble and honorable causes were achieved like the building of schools and hospitals. Nationalism also a caused a series of crisis in Morocco and Balkans.
The Long Term Causes Are:
Nationalism in Austria, Eastern Question, Imperialism, Alliances, newspaper press, "Yellow Journalism" in U.S. and militarism.
The outbreak of WW II in Europe is best understood as the continuation of WW I. Germany was deeply unhappy about the outcome of WW I and wanted a rematch. The Great Depression also helped to make the people of Europe discontent and more willing to get into fights.
