Sorry, but the P-51H was never operational in WWII. There were a LOT of fast aircraft in WWII, but most were not operational until AFTER the war. The fastest aircraft of the U.S. arsenal during the war was undoubtedly the Lockheed P-80, and even though it was never used in combat, they DID send a pair to Italy just before the end of the war. They were NOT in squadron service, however. So, that would make the fastest operational prop-driven aircraft the Repuiblic P-47M "Thunderbolt", which was used in combat by the 56th Fighter group to run after the German jets then coming into service. It was basically a P-47N fuselage with the big G.E. CH-5 turbocharger with the big R-2800C engine, but with the small wings of the "D" series. They only built about 150 of them. The "M" was easily capable of between 475-480mph. P-51H, Speed 487 MPH.
No the B-52 was first released in 1955, the Americans did not use jet-engined bombers in WW2, German technology was more advanced and they did have Jet engines that powered aircraft and flew in the war. So in short NO.
The 'Mosquito' was a British twin-engined aeroplane manufactured by de Havilland, out of wood, and carrying a crew of two. It was one of the fastest, and probably the most versatile, aeroplanes of the war, with photo recce, fighter, and bomber versions being built.
Aircraft carriers (aircraft).
I know the United States has 9 aircraft carriers. Rest of the world??
No jet aircraft were used in WW1.
Yes, it is the world's fastest and the most powerful combat aircraft.
if you have every tried to fly a small, single engined aircraft around the world on 1 tank of fuel you would understand why the asnswer is yes
The World's fastest, most powerful and the most expensive combat aircraft is the F-22 stealth raptor.
Late models of the De Havilland Mosquito were fastest.
According to Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the international organization that sanctions aircraft records, the Grumman F8F Bearcat holds the world single engine piston record at 850.24 km/h (528.88 mph). The record was set on August 21st, 1989. The question as posed does not make a distinction between those aircraft in current production and those no longer in production. The claim for fastest production aircraft is currently held by Mooney's Acclaim Type S at 242kts.
Mid engined gas powered supercar EG:Koenigsegg CCX, SSC Ultimate Aero, or Bugatti Veyron
the P-38 Lightning was one of the fastest propeller driven aircraft of world war 2. it could almost break the sound barrier in a dive
the world will never know
SR-71 Blackbird. Mach 3.2
In the 1940s?Not that I know of, they were too busy fighting a war.But in the 1930s they built the Tupolev ANT-20 Maxim Gorky, which was the largest aircraft in the world at the time.
The Cessna Citation X (that is10) is reputed to be the fastest commercial aircraft - maximum speed is Mach .91
There are many single engine aircraft used as dive bombers and torpedo bombers that could be cited if this were the aim of the question - was it?
