In 1917, the Bolsheviks, under the leadership of Lenin took control and quickly ended the war with Germany and Austro-Hungary with the treaty of Brest-Litvosk.

The growing influence of Gregory Rasputin over the Romanov’s did a great deal to damage the royal family and by the end of the spring of 1917, the Romanovs, who had ruled Russia for just over 300 years, was taken by the provisional goverment.
