First find out if he was a soldier (US Army), marine (US Marine Corps), sailor (US Navy), Coast Guardsman (US Coast Guard), or airman (US Air Force). Then get his serial number and contact the VA. Note* The Vietnam War the "LAST WAR" in which serial numbers were issued to US Servicemen. GI's entering US Military service, may not have a serial number for the 1970's.
