Bacon's rebellion took place in 1676 in the Virginia colony. The colonists were angry at the governor of the colony, William Berkeley. He had neglected to provide for their safety from the surrounding Indian tribes causing numerous Indian attacks on the colony.

The immediate reason for the Bacon's Rebellion was the Indian attacks on the frontier settlements. Governor William Berkeley refused to retaliate on the Indians, therefore, Nathaniel Bacon and other young men became frustrated by the inability to acquire the land and started this rebellion.
