Help them with what? Native Americans get paid by the feds for doing no work at all as compensation for what settlers did to them during colonization. They get free higher education, a stipend which is I think 2,000 USD a month. There are some natives who actually make a million a year from the state and feds.

Because they were natives to the American Continent. To the best of anyone's knowledge there was no native name for the country or continent. What would you suggest? Answer: This is actually a great question. Native American is just another form of political correctness. Native peoples are split on this. Some prefer Native American. Others prefer American Indian while still others feel Indian is just fine. Most refer to themselves as a member of their tribe anyway...ie..Mohegan, Tuscarora, Teton, etc. APEX a long-running pattern of whites removing Native Americans from their land, their lifestyle, and killing them.
There is no "one set" of acceptable definitions and every person will have arguments against both of those sayings as well as "Indigenous American" or "Indigenous People" as such any of these terms when used respectfully does not cause a problem. Be aware though that certain other colloquial terms can get you in trouble (Redman, Skin, Buck, Squaw, Chief, and combo's of those, etc.)
I need the answer myself, anyone help me out here? its myhomework...:/
The federal government made laws forcing Native Americans to learn English and speak only English. They trained Native American wives to be good and proper English housewives. They provided money and compliments for those who learned quickly and adjusted to the American ways. The American government did this because the American Government was against anyone being different than them. They wanted everyone to be the same as them because they were the "elite" people.
Oh, dude, this whole "Indian" confusion is like a never-ending sitcom plot. So, basically, when Columbus got lost and thought he landed in India, he called the indigenous people he met "Indians." Fast forward to today, and we're stuck with the mix-up. It's like when you accidentally text the wrong person, but on a global scale.
