Madam Walker did not attend college. During the late 1800s and early 1900s when she was of school age, most Americans did not graduate from high school or college. She was mostly "self-taught" as were many successful entrepreneurs in America during her lifetime. After her death she has received many honors including being inducted into the National Business Hall of Fame, the Women's Hall of Fame, the Cosmetology Hall of Fame, the American Health and Beauty Aids Institute Hall of Fame and the Direct Sales Association Hall of Fame. In 1998 she was featured on a U. S. postage stamp.

While the person who first answered this question wrote "madam c.j. walker is famous for inventing the hot comb". . .this statement is not true. Madam Walker did NOT invent the hot comb. Hot combs appear in Bloomingdales and Sears catalogs as early as 1890 when Madam C. J. Walker was still Sarah Breedlove McWilliams, a poor washerwoman, and long before she began her hair care business in 1906. Source: On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C. J.
