Way back in the late 1400's when Columbus mistakingly sailed to Central America(thinking it was Asia), he had sailed with the spanish from Spain and when they got to land and native Americans who were living there, they mistreated and enslaved them. Since the Spanish were ahead of them in society, had guns, more trained soldiers, and brought European dieases with them, the native Americans were too weakened to fight and defend themselves and their land. Millions of them died. Columbus called them Indians because he thought he was in the indies islands off the coast of East Asia. He even did'NT live to know that he was in 2 continents Europe, Africa or Asia did'NT know about. Truthfully, Christopher Columbus was not as much of a hero people now think he is as he did very bad things to the Native Americans.
