conference committee
president pro tempore
If you are asking about the Presidential succession list, The Secretary of State is next in line after the President pro tempore. If the president pro tempore dies or resigns his office , a new pro tempore would be elected by the Senate. If a senator is too sick to serve but does not resign, nothing is done.
Arrest from anything except a felony or treason Also they cannot be sued for anything they say while they are on the floor
The 27 Amendment states, "No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened." Basically it means that if the 1/3 of the Congress and ALL of the House of Representatives vote to have their pay raised, they don't get a pay raise until after elections in two years. The two years that is given is so that the citizens can carefully consider whether or not to vote for the raises. It was originally meant to prevent the Congressmen from getting pay raises every year. However, Congress voted, and won, itself a Cost of Living Allowance (COLA). The COLA does not count as a raise so therefore Congress can vote itself little raises that nobody will notice every two years. I hope that helped! If you just google it it's all over the Internet.
1) cannot break a law or he will get impeached 2) cannot make new laws immediately, must be checked by Congress 3) cannot declare war 4) decide on how federal money can be spent
The senate confirms presidential appointees the HOR cannot do this
Both the House and the Senate must pass a bill before it goes to the President. If both houses of Congress pass a similar bill yet cannot agree on the particulars the bill will go to a joint reconciliation committee for final changes which will then become law.
Anyone other than the House of Representatives and the Senate, through constitutional impeachment proceedings.A judge cannot be "dismissed" by the President, Supreme Court justices, the House or Senate Judiciary Committee, other judges, etc.
I believe it is the House of Representatives. If not it's the Senate.
The Committee of Ways and Means is the chief tax-writing committee of the United States House of Representatives. Members of the Ways and Means Committee cannot serve on any other House Committees, though they can apply for a waiver from their party's congressional leadership. The Committee has jurisdiction over all taxation, tariffs and other revenue-raising measures, as well as a number of other programs including:Social SecurityUnemployment benefitsMedicareEnforcement of child support lawsTemporary Assistance for Needy Families, a federal welfare programFoster care and adoption programsThe U.S. Constitution requires that all bills regarding taxation must originate in the House of Representatives. Since House procedure is that all bills regarding taxation must go through this committee, the committee is very influential, as is its Senate counterpart, the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance.
No. While a select committee can recommend that articles of impeachment be brought, it cannot bring charges (articles of impeachment) or conduct the impeachment trial. Articles of Impeachment are brought by the full House of Representatives, and the impeachment trial is conducted by the Senate with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presiding.
There's only 2 houses.....house of representatives and senate.
a state has voting Representatives in Congress and Senators in the Senatea territory cannot vote in Congress or the Senate (although they may send nonvoting observers)
The Senate cannot introduce bills for raising revenue. Article 1, Section 7 of the US Constitution states that All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other bills
The House Committee of Ways and Means is a permanent committee of the House of Representatives. They are responsible for all bills concerning taxation, customs, duties and international relations. This gives them a great deal of power within the Legislature as they control how the government raises money. If they don't raise money, supposedly the rest of the legislature cannot spend it.
Under terms of the 23rd amendment to the Constitution, citizens of the District of Columbia are able to vote for Electors in Presidential Elections. However, they have no Representatives in the House of Representatives, and no Senators in the Senate, so they cannot vote to elect them.
Bills or "suggested laws" are put forward by either Congress or Senate but it has to be approved by both bodies before it can proceed to become law. There are some cases where the version of the bill approved by Congress is different from the one in the Senate or vice-versa. The bill cannot be passed if it has multiple forms because then multiple laws will be created, and each version needs to be approved by both Congress and Senate. To resolve this issue, a bicameral conference committe is created which takes representatives from both Congress and Senate and they unify the two differing bills into one coherent law. - Popi Sunga
