Lincoln wanted to stop slavery from spreading West. What is above this is wrong. Lincoln didn't want to be president because he wanted to end slavery. He didn't care if slavery continued or ended. He just wanted to figure out a way to keep the union together. When he took office the south lost it's political power eventually. The North was much stronger than the south. That's when Lincoln wrte the emancipation proclamation. The south had to suck it up. Lincoln wanted to be president because he thought he found a way to end the scial unrest.
