The Whitmans started a mission in 1836 and called it the Whitman Mission. while they were traveling they ran across some old friends. They had some conflict and split up, the Whitmans tried to convert indians, their friends tried to convert the others. But on November 29th, 1847, Europeans came to America and brought measles, influenza, cholera, and smallpox. Many Native Americans died because they had no immunity towards the European diseases. Native Americans thought thought it was Mr.Whitman because he was a doctor. So they hunted down the Whitmans and killed them and the people who were traveling with them. The Whitman massacre is also known as the Walla Walla Massacre or the Whitman Incident.
