the battle of the coral sea was a major battle in world war two fought between the imperial Japanese army and the allied navies and air forces the outcome was the defeat of the Japanese army this spelt the end of the Japanese armies. This means is that the Japanese could never again threaten Australia and NewZealand
The Japanese wanted to gain land, and therefore natural resources and power during World War II. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor so that they could gain control of Hawaii and expand their empire.
The Midway Atoll was acquired by the US in 1867. In 1859 Captain N.C. Brooks discovered Midway and claimed it for the United States.
Captain N.C. Middlebrooks of the sailing ship Gambia claimed the uninhabited Island later called Midway for the United States on 5 July 1859. On 28 August 1867, Captain William Reynolds of the USS Lackawanna formally took possession of the atoll for the United States.

The Japanese lost all four aircraft carriers of their Strike Force at Midway..Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu. They were four of the six carriers which had participated in the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The aircraft carriers Akagi, Kaga, Soryu and Hiryu were sunk and also the heavy cruiser Mikuma.
In early June 1942 the battle at Midway marked a significant change in World War II in the Pacific. Just west of Midway, the US Navy attacked and sunk four Japanese aircraft carriers and lost one of their own.

Discounting other sea engagements, at the battles of Coral Sea and Midway the IJN lost 1 and 4 carriers respectively.
The U.S. won the battle of the Midway only because the code breakers could figure out the Japanese codes. During the battle, the U.S. sunk four aircraft carriers, the Akagi, the Kaga, the Soryu, and the Hiryu. The Japanese, however, only sunk the carrier, the U.S.S Yorktown, which was later repaired and sent back into action.
