Texas was the last of the Southern states to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation on June 19, 1865. However, Georgia's ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment on December 6, 1865 officially ended slavery throughout all the states, because only 3/4 of the states needed to ratify the amendment to make it legal. The four states that left the Union after President Lincoln's call for arms was South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, and Alabama. Shortly after these states left the Union Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas succeeded.
Tennessee became the 16th state in the Union on June 1, 1796. Ohio became the 17th state in the Union on March 1, 1803. If you list the 50 U.S. states in alphabetic order, Texas follows Tennessee.
