The origins of Virginia began in 1607 with the founding of Jamestown. The Virginia Company, which had been given the charter to found the colony, set up a General Assembly. In 1624, Virginia became a royal colony when the Virginia Company's charter was revoked. However, the General Assembly stayed in place which helped set a model for representative government in this and other colonies.
The Southern colonies were just a part of the 13 originals colonies settled by the English during the 1600s and 1700s. Therefore the government of the southern colonies was under the British government, just like the northern colonies. Each of the 13 colonies had a governor who reported to the English government.

The Bahamas was in a state of ruins because of the pirates and the ineffective Proprietary Governors. This became a great concern for English merchants who were losing fortunes to pirates. To stop this the Crown had to regain control of The Bahamas. The Crown purchased the islands from the Proprietors and set up their own form of government to try and stop the pirates. The form of government set up by the Crown was called Crown Colony Government. In 1718 the Crown sent their first Royal Governor to The Bahamas Captain Woodes Rogers.

This question is difficult to answer in its current form. Be that is it may, if we set the time to 1776, the answer is the 13 British Colonies.

They were all about that colonial expansion life, trying to make a buck and show off their fancy European ways. Spoiler alert: things didn't always go as planned, but hey, at least they tried, right?
