The immediate result of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire was that 146 people died, either from the fire itself, from the results of smoke inhalation, or from jumping to their deaths in an attempt to escape the fire.

Following the fire the Factory Investigating Commission was created and, as a result of their reports, new laws were enacted to help safeguard employees. The new laws covered things such as the provision of fire extinguishers, alarms and sprinkler systems, making sure that buildings had proper access and increased fire-proofing, as well as making improvements to the workers' conditions in general by limiting the number of working hours for some employees, and the provision of better eating and toilet facilities for all workers.

The American Society of Safety Engineers was also created as a direct result of the fire.

The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory made clothing. To prevent workers from leaving for breaks, the managers locked the doors. When the building caught fire, people could not escape, and many were killed. To prevent such a disaster in the future, laws were created to protect workers, among those were laws saying that work exits could not be locked when the building was occupied.
