1630-1720 eastern Woodland Weapons
Eastern Woodland Indians used many weapons in battle. From about 1630-1720 Eastern Indians used Bow and Arrows are longbows. Longbows are extremely accurate and could be fired and exceptional distance. Most arrow tips were stone and bone. But in the early 1700s Indian tribes like Iroquois, Cherokee, and Shawnee might of used metal tips. Spears were not a common weapon buy most Eastern Tribes. But the tribes of New York and New England might of used them up until 1675. The spears could be thrown and had stone tips. Spears could cause damage especially if you throw it or stab at the chest. Tomahawks were made out of stone or metal and caused tons damage. Knifes made out of stone metal were used by all Eastern Tribes. Scalping was not yet common but would occur occasionally. The weapon most proffered by Eastern Tribes was the ball club. The ball club was made out of wood with a heavy end. It could smash heads open if you hit them properly. Shields made out of wood or rawhide were also used.
1720-1812
After the 1600s many tribes were wiped out in New England and Virginia etc. The tribes that still remained were fierce and wanted payback. The flintlock musket was adopted by all tribes until 1790 when single shot more accurate rifles were created. The musket was a somewhat accurate weapon but it could only fire one shot. Spears were no longer a weapon by Eastern people. Tomahawks were now the number one weapon. The Tomahawk was iron could be thrown a distance and caused extreme damage. Gunstock war clubs were used by the northern Eastern Woodlands people. Although the ball club was still a big weapon. Iron knifes and scalping were common in the the east know. Shields were no longer used. Hope this helped you.
