The president died in April of 1865 at Ford's theater when he was shot by Booth. Mary Todd lived until about 1875. Here is an interesting bit of info concerning their bodies and the Lincoln mausoleum . Lincoln was placed in the mausoleum before it was finished, and it was broken into by men who tried to steal his body. The damage was so bad that his body had to be put in a safe place, so it was decided to place it in the basement of the mausoleum and pile wood on top of his coffin. He stayed for several years and when Mary Todd died she was placed next to him in the basement. There they stayed and were finally buried for good in 1902. One of our greatest leaders was in a basement for 30 years.
