Some famous Pawnee Chiefs include Petalesharo, who was known for his efforts to promote peace between the Pawnee and the European settlers in the early 19th century. Another notable Pawnee Chief is White Eagle, who led his people during a time of great transition and adversity as they were forcibly relocated to Indian Territory. Chiefs like Kitkehahki and Sky Chief also played significant roles in Pawnee history and culture, leading their people through times of war and cultural change.
Well, honey, if we're talking about Pawnee Chiefs, you've got to mention Chief Petalesharo. He's famous for saving the life of a woman in Washington, D.C. back in the 1800s. And let's not forget Chief Matoree, who was a prominent leader during the early 19th century. So there you have it, a couple of Pawnee Chiefs who made their mark in history.
Petalasharo or Man Chief. There were a number of Petalasharos as it was a common name within the Pawnee culture, but the two most famous lived in the the 19th century. One saved a captured Indian maiden from human sacrifice and the other was the Great Chief during the removal of the tribe from Nebraska. He died a mysterious death in 1875.
The Pawnee are not one tribe but four: Skidi, Pitahawirata, Kitkehaxhi and Tsawi, each with their own tribal leadership.
