Depends what you mean by "bad." Bad for whom? Now if you are looking for infamous American politicians, you need go not further than the Presidency. My selection for worst US President is James Buchanan, who sat by and allowed the country to be torn apart by the expansion of slavery until, a month after he was out of office, the Civil War exploded.

Then we have duplicitous Presidents who lie to the Public and Congress in order to implement a questionable foreign policy. There have been , unfortunately, a number of these. George W. Bush is only the most recent.

I also have make sure Andrew Jackson isn't left off the list. He ignored the separation of powers in the Constitution by refusing to enforce a decision by the Supreme Court that Southeastern Indian tribes had a right to their property. In fact, he ordered the exact opposite and had the Army drive the Indians hundreds of miles west with few belongings because Jackson's friends and supporters in the South wanted Indian land. He also promised Blacks who served under him at the Battle of New Orleans rewards for their service; freedom if they were slaves. He went back on that promise too. Jackson was a racist demagogue who came as close to placing himself above the law as any American President before or since.
