Yes, first in Kentucky. Then when land title laws became difficult, Thomas Lincoln moved the family to Indiana, where the land had been surveyed by the federal government. Slavery appeared to be an issue also. Abraham Lincoln did not live in Illinois until he was about 21 years old.
