A LOT of the ones I've seen recently appear to be Simmons , judging by the trim on the Adjustable Objective and the elevation/windage knobs... I don't know what kind of warranty they carry but generally speaking they aren't holding up as well as the Simmons do. It's all in the quality control and how good they must be to please the customer (In this case Dick's)

Who makes barska scopes?

Barska Scopes are made in China. Fact is they are relatively inexpensive scopes that are adequate for most hunting purposes. Many folks speak critically of optics made in China. They seem to either forget or not be old enough to remember when items made in Japan; from cars to electronics, were similarly criticized. Quality control is improving for items coming from China. There are those that really understand very little about the science of optics, that believe that if its not made in Europe or cost a couple of thousand dollars, it must not be any good. Barska is at the level of your higher end BSA and Simmons optics.

Who makes SPI scopes?

Southern Precision Instruments Company Incorporated I don't know that they are in business anymore. The website they have is very outdated and only mentions their microscopes and telescopes. No mention of rifle scopes. If you look at the logos on their other products, it matches the logo on my SPI rifle scope (that I purchased used with no paperwork). The logo is a diamond with an SPI in the diamond. A sample picture of the logo on a telescope can be found below: http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/attachments/2036141-SPI_Focuser.jpg
