The Plains Indians scalped their victims because when the victims died, they'd go to the Happy Hunting Grounds IF... They Had A Scalp. When the Plains Indians died, they didn't want to find their enemies in the Happy Hunting Grounds, so they ruin their access there.
Plains Indians also scalped enemies to show there successes in battle. the scalps could be used to decorate there Tipi or there weapon and shield
