Drill and Ceremonies are very important. There are many reasons why. Some include purposes, uses, values, and etc. The main purpose of drill is to allow a leader to form and move a large group of people with precision and accuracy from point A to point B. It also teaches discipline and forces attention to learn the commands and the action that is to be carried out under each different command. In the case of the military, when quick adherence to orders can be the difference between life and death, drill helps to instill that quick adherence to orders in soldiers. The uses for drill and ceremony range from the moving a unit across a battlefield, to entertaining people. One of the more famous drill teams is the United States Marine Corps Precision Drill Team. Units give demonstrations to many audiences at many different events.
Drill is often used in a larger ceremony. Ceremonies range from honoring someone for heroic deeds to burial of a military person who has past away. The type of drill performed depends on the type of ceremony. In such cases of change of command, a former commander's soldiers will march past him in review. In such cases of a military burial, two types of drill teams are to be used. The first drill team carries the casket to the grave, folds the flag and then presents it to the fallen soldier's family. The second drill team consists of seven soldiers. Each member of the small team carries a rifle. At a certain command used during the ceremony, each soldier will fire three rifle shots, providing the fallen soldier with a 21 gun salute.

This is a broad question. There are all kinds of drill teams:Mounted (horse, mostly)MotorcycleBook Cart (or anything else pushable)Dance-relatedCheer-relatedMilitaryYou name it and it's probably a drill team."Standard" doesn't necessarily define the question much more, but it does give a slight clue. In military drill there are different competition phases: Exhibition Drill (XD) and Regulation Drill (RD). Standard could be a reference to the RD phase of a competition in which some teams only participate. RD consists of a list of commands that come directly out of a service's drill and ceremonies manual. Nothing fancy here, only standard drill that every service member is taught when entering Basic Training. The limits are time and the area in which to march, usually 50 feet by 50 feet.
