The British defeat to the Continental Army prompted France to seek an alliance. The Continentals had been receiving military aid and weapons from France all along but now they had the French Navy and 10,000 French troops supporting them.
The American victory at the two battles in late 1777 (18 days apart) meant the capture of a large number of British troops. In surrendering, General Burgoyne lost his bid to split the New England colonies from the Southern colonies. But even more importantly, it prompted the entry of France and Spain to the colonial side. France had already contributed arms to the rebels (as part of their ongoing national hostilities with Britain), but 4 months after the battle, on February 6, 1778, a formal Franco-American alliance was signed.
The Battle of Saratoga was part of the Revolutionary War. It was considered the turning point of the war.
The Battle of Saratoga was a turning point in the Revolutionary War because it convinced the French to aid the Colonistsagainst the British. Why was French help important? French military assistance kept the American cause from collapsing and tipped the balance in favor of the colonists at Yorktown, Virginia in 1781, the battle that ended the war and won American independence.Plus, the win at Saratoga and the help of the French heartened the American colonists after a series of crushing, almost final, defeats.
As a result of the colonists defeating the British at Saratoga, France agreed to aid the colonists and send their navy to fight the British navy (which they did at Yorktown, VA). Saratoga stopped the British army in Northern New York and changed the Revolutionary War from largely being fought in the Northeast to being fought in the central and southern part of the 13 colonies. These crucial colonist victories at Battle of Saratoga persuaded French to support Americans with military aid, and is considered the major turning point in the American Revolution.
Benedict Arnold was an American Revolutionary War hero when he defeated British General Burgoyne at the Battle of Saratoga. However, recognition paled against expectations and he became disgruntled. As a result, he turned traitor, making a deal to turn over West Point to the British.
The turning point in the Revolutionary War that helped the Americans win, was a victory in three battles in New York and Vermont. Oriskany and Saratoga in New York and the battle at Bennington, Vermont gave the Colonists the upper hand. This was probably due to the fact that one British General decided to go out on his own and capture Philadelphia and did not participate in any of the battles mentioned.
