Cromwell's supporters would likely argue that Cromwell's actions were driven by a sense of duty and responsibility to the state, rather than personal greed. They might point to his efforts to stabilize the economy, reform government institutions, and promote religious tolerance as evidence of his commitment to the common good. Additionally, they could highlight Cromwell's modest lifestyle and refusal of extravagant gifts or titles as further proof that he was not motivated by personal enrichment.
