In George Orwell's "Animal Farm," the Bolshevik pigs seem familiar because, once there is a revolution and a new power cadre is in place, they settle in and become the same as the old oppressors. The Bolsheviks got the peasants and farmers to help them throw out the old regime with promises of a new, fair and equal society. However, once they were in power, the ideals were sent packing, and a new, but still unfair, hierarchy just came in to replace the old.
