One way of doing this is to consider Geert Hofstede's results.

Canada and America are fairly similar to the degree to which they accept egalitarianism amongst their citizens, compared to, for example, Malaysia.

There is some similarity in the degree of individualism in the two cultures but America is higher in this trait. Both are much, much higher than, for example, Malaysia.

The countries share a level of considerable willingness to accept new ideas or products, or to try new things. They are not so willing as, say, the United Kingdom.

Both countries are oriented toward the short term, Canada even more.
