Mohandas Gandhi (1869-1948) was a principle spiritual leader in India, and helped persuade Britain to return independence to the country after World War II.

Gandhi led a salt march in India to protest a tax on it. He did not believe in violence, and would not hurt anybody. He was given the honorific title of Mahatma, which means "great soul."

Mahatma Gandhi lead the Indian people and negotiated with the English. he led the Salt march, and he believed in peace not violence. When he died, his last words were "Hey Rama" which means "Oh God".
