It was a religio-political event in the England of William and Mary ( Mary II). It was so-called from the religious connotations of the adjective ( look at all the hymns using the word Gloria or variants-including Christmas songs. Basically it was an alleged new era of religious tolerance of different denominations- such as Roman Catholics in The United Kingdom. So-called from its spiritual nature and relative lack of violence- the battleground was in the spirit- not in the fields of war!

The abdication of King James II, and his replacement by William and Mary. It marked the end of religious persecution, and asserted the rule of Parliament.
During most revolutions a lot of blood is spilled but in this one the term 'Glorious' is meaning that this revolution was bloodless. They were Protestant Rulers who were invited by some parliament members to overthrow the Catholic King James II
James II was deposed by his own Parliament in the Glorious Revolution of 1688 - when the Westminster Government recognised the invading forces of William of Orange in preference to the legitimate king. The coup-d'état is sometimes called the Bloodless Revolution - but there was some fighting, albeit dilatory, and quite a few people were killed. Forces loyal to James were defeated in a handful of minor battles, and in the slightly larger battles at Boyne and Aughrim (1691). After Aughrim James was left with no credible army, and the Stuart monarchy was at an end.
