The Compromise of 1850 required that all northern states turn over slaves that escape the south to these territories. The Compromise of 1850 ended when the north refused to follow these stipulations.

In my view: the pro-slavery interests predicted that "free" States would eventually outnumber "slave" States; the anti-slavery interests predicted that the Supreme Court's decision in Dred Scott would make it impossible to maintain any "free" states.

The so-called Compromise of 1877 failed in several ways. Part of the arrangement was that Northern troops would be withdrawn from the South. That never happened, they never left the South and were confined to their quarters. That new investments by the North in the Southern economy also was never realized.

The compromise of 1860 failed to stop the Civil War between the northern and southern states. This was because they could not agree on the terms set forward.

Some people opposed the Compromise of 1850 because they believed admitting California as free state would offset the balance of free and slave states.

it slowly dissolved sectionalism between the U.S. and allowed California to be a free state allowing sovereignty elsewhere.
