1898 was when the analogue clock was made and placed in the Main street Post Office tower, however after the Wairarapa earthquakes of 1942, the Post Office tower was seen as an earthquake threat and subsequently in 1953 Arthur Hopwood donated a tower that the clock could be used in. It was completed in March of 1957. In June 1967 a permanent white cross replaced the previous temporary cross that was meant to only be a decoration for Christmas in 1960. In 2007 the council restored the clock tower after the white cross tore off during heavy winds. It was strengthened, painted and a new neon lantern which depicts a cross was put on top to replace the white cross.
Because it was a way of show casing all that the country had to offer at that time..it was a one off.
1789 was the start of modern history. :) Personnaly I would go back a lot further, to the Renaisance. All history is a continuum, but certainly there are some eras where things did take off rapidly. 1789 ignores the start of serious science in the West, and the age of western exploration.

The Sky Tower in New Zealand says you fall at 56mph from their huge 192m tower. However this is not a true bungy, it is a cross between base jumping and bungy. It's possibly faster for a true free fall bungy.
The Jumping-Off Place was created in 1929.

Well to answer your question, to start free running you have to join the military, because they are the only ones authorized to train you in that specific place of talent, or if you don't want to join the military, well you can practice yourself. Don't, and I repeat, Don't start jumping of buildings, start by jumping off small objects. I am not responsible for you injuries, or your boneheaded actions.
