The Cocos (Keeling) Islands, which had been settled by the Clunies Ross family in the 1820s, were annexed by Great Britain in 1857. In 1878 the island group was attached to Ceylon, but was transferred to the Straits Settlement in 1886. During WW2, the islands were under British military control exercised from Ceylon. When did the Northern Territory become a colony of Australia?

The Northern Territory was never a colony of Australia. The Northern Territory was founded under the name of "Northern Territory" in 1911, which is when it was separated from South Australia and transferred to Commonwealth control. From 1825 to 1863, the Northern Territory was part of New South Wales, and from 1863 to 1911 it was part of South Australia, at neither time being a separate territory or colony - though there was the outpost of Port Essington on the northern coast. On 1 January 1911, the Northern Territory was removed from South Australia's rule and transferred to Commonwealth control.

What side did Arizona declare for at the outbreak of the civil war?

Arizona did not become a state until more than fifty years after the start of the Civil War. At the time of the Civil War the area that became Arizona in 1912 was a part of New Mexico Territory (New Mexico did not become a state until 1907). The New Mexico Territory seceded and joined the Confederacy, but the Confederates lost the only significant military campaign to take place there. Along with that campaign the south also lost its control over the region.
