Benedict Arnold

Boston, Massachusetts (Breed's Hill) New York (Present-day New York City) Trenton, New Jersey Saratoga, New York Yorktown, Virginia Little known is the Battle of Valcour Island on Lake Champlain in the Fall of 1776. General Benidict Arnold led a rag-tag flotilla of gun boats to hold the British off and prevent the recapture of Fort Ticonderoga before the winter set in. This prevented the British from penetrating from the north and cutting off the New England Colonies; considered the heart of the rebellion. That combined with victory at Saratoga in 1777, also spearheaded by General Arnold's bravery, ended the British Northern Campaign; saving the Revolution. In WWII, the US had a policy of naming Aircraft Carriers after famous battles: Saratoga, Ticonderoga, Yorktown, Lexington, Bunker Hill..... British Prime Minister Winston Churchill once said something to the effect that the US should have named a carrier "Valcour Island", because that was considered, by the British, a turning point in the war. Of course, due to the stygma of Benidict Arnold's treason, anything solely accociated with him is tarnished in the eyes of most Americans.
The world is a confusing and hostile place.
An invasion of Canada by generals Arnold and Montgomery.
General Richard Montgomery and its army occupied Montreal in November 1775. Together with Colonel Benedict Arnold's army, they attacked Quebec, however, they lost the battle against the British
Not originally. Benedict Arnold was an an American hero and one of America's best generals. After the capture of Fort Ticonderoga he came within a hair of capturing Canada. At the Battle of Saratoga his horse was shot from under him and he was wounded in the leg by a British musket ball. After he was discredited (an event which remains controversial to this day), Arnold had little choice but to ally himself with the British, as a hangman's rope awaited him if he returned to the American side. The British made him a general in their army, but other British generals did not like him or trust him, as they regarded him a traitor to the American side.
Colonel Benedict Arnold and General Richard Montgomery.
The Continental Congress dispatched General Richard Montgomery and Benedict Arnold to fight the British in Canada in 1775. Montgomery was successful in taking Montreal, but was stopped in Quebec City. It was there that he was killed in battle. Benedict Arnold was praised for conducting an orderly retreat of the American forces.
The American major generals were George Washington, Nathaniel Greene, Daniel Morgan, Marquis de Lafayette(French) and Horatio Gates. The major British Generals were Lord Charles Cornwallis, William Howe, and Johnny Burgoyne. Also, Benedict Arnold who fought on the American side for a while, but then betrayed America, fleeing to fight for the British side.
Benedict Arnold was one of George Washington's most trusted generals and a spy for the British
The bold American military strategy that narrowly failed in December 1775 was the invasion of Quebec during the American Revolutionary War. Under the leadership of General Richard Montgomery, American forces attempted to take control of the city of Quebec and bring Canada into the rebellion against British rule. However, the invasion was hindered by harsh winter conditions, a lack of supplies, and fierce resistance from British and Canadian forces, ultimately resulting in the defeat of the American troops.
Richard Montgomery and Benedict Arnold were defeated in the Battle of Quebec in December of 1775. This was part of the first military initiative of the Continental Army.
