Timothy `Aero' Lyons; Jim McEnerny; Edward Greany; Pat O'Shea; Rudge Hathaway; Tom McGrath went into the caves on Monday, 16th April, 1923.

Tom McGrath and Pat O'Shea slipped on the cliffs and drowned while trying to get away to get help in the early hours of 17th April.

At midday on the 17th, 'Aero' Lyons surrendered and a rope was thrown down for him to climb. Halfway up the rope was cut, 'Aero' fell onto the jagged rocks below and then he was riddled with bullets for several minutes.

Hathaway was beaten severely, as he was an Englishmen who had left the Tans and joined the IRA. Hathaway, McEnerny and Greany were taken away to Tralee military barracks and executed on Wednesday, 25th April, 1923.
