Ferdinand Magellan Actually Ferdinand Magellan was not the first. He died on his expedition because they were not knowledgeable of how long the trip would last and they did not bring enough supplies. 270 men were on his crew and only 18 of the men survived and they did not include Magellan.
The earliest documented circumnavigation of the globe was the one led by the Portoguese explorer Fernão de Magalhães (aka Magellan) between the years 1519 & 1522. The chap perished in the journey, just like most of the crewmen .
It's Magellan. Also he did not complete a full circumnavigation, as he was killed in the Philippines about half way around the globe. The rest of the voyage was undertaken by Elcano. The ship Victoria, was the only ship that completed the voyage between 1519-1522
