One was the American had more advantages, like how they knew the land.

Additional answer

The main problem was that the Americans did not want to be ruled by, and pay any taxes to, an outside country like GB. Also, they did not have representation (i.e. they couldn't vote in Parliament). So they started a war to overthrow the British rulers.

British: The Brits had the most powerful army in the world. The British forces were sent to crush the Rebels. They mainly relied on their numbers and discipline. They fought according to European "rules of war". They used their organization to scare the Continental's. When the British moved inland, they recruited Indians as guides. They were ineffective on inland terrain and got lost after their guides were sniped by Americans. British officers were "gentlemen" and told their troops that Americans would eat them. Their underestimation of the Colonies coupled with war weariness in England caused them to lose the war.

Americans: The Americans went up against the most powerful army in the world, so they knew that they could not defeat them in an all out battle that the British were hoping for. They were annihilated at first but retreated inland. They were much more effective as guerrillas and were excellent snipers. They targeted officers and higher ranked troops to cause chaos among British. Eventually, the British grew weary of the war, with French and Spanish forces fighting the British also, England was unable to transport so many troops such a long ways away. But, in the end, determination and ardent patriotism led the Americans to victory.
