Yes, people from all over the world still imigrate to the U.S. every day. There is still a wide variety of cultures all over the nation, which makes it just as much of a "melting pot" as it was way back.

Although this is of course a matter of opinion, I would say 'a mosaic'. The reason: a melting pot suggests that all races and creeds in the USA intermingle, intermarry etc. and that group-related races, backgrounds, traditions and beliefs are hardly discernible. In the USA many ethnic groups are clearly different and proud to be, even while living and working closely together.

Whether it should be or not is immaterial. It is a "melting pot" of all nationalities. This as noted is entirely correct. It should be and has been a "melting pot" for the purpose of inclusion of minorities into the mainstream of USA society. This reinforces the goal of a harmonious and fair society. The Catholic Church is considered a "melting pot", because it has so many races, ways of talking to God. Would use the world 'cultures' instead of races. Would question if mother church encourages 'different ways of talking with God' Believe that was one reason the Missal came about. It helped to standardize prayers.

What does the term melting pot mean for the US?

The term 'melting pot' comes from the idea of taking many different forms of a specific type of object. Two examples of said 'objects' would be metals or cheeses. when you throw many different types of cheese into a pot and heat it up to melt them(hence melting pot) they mix together and form something different from any of the original cheeses. The same idea is put into New York City and other large coastal U.S. cities back in the late 1800s to early 1900s, when immigration to the United States was at its largest flow. So many different cultures and ethnicities were forced into such a small space that they inevitably mixed together and created a unique new culture only found in that region or country.
