Scotland is a constitutional country within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

It is a per-capita parliamentary representative democracy (where number of seats per party is determined by the number of people that vote for that party country-wide, as opposed to a per-area one, where the number of seats per party is determined by the number of areas in which that party had the most votes) currently under the soveregnty of the Westminster parliament.

It also had a (symbolic) constitutional monarchy, and as such, has the First-minister (the leader of the party or coalition currently in power, currently Alex Salmond) as the head of government and the King/Queen (The leader of the Windsor house royal family, currently Elizabeth II) as the head of state.
