According to the website linked below entitled "Biography of James Garfield," Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone, tried unsuccessfully to find the bullet with an induction-balance electrical device which he had designed. Alexander Graham Bell was not a physician, of course. According to the website linked below entitled "History House: Garfield II: A Lengthy Demise," one of the doctors who treated Garfield was Dr. D. W. Bliss. Another was Dr. Robert Reyburn, and also Navy Surgeon General Wales and Dr. Frank H. Hamilton.
