Both the loyalists and patriots felt strongly about their stand on the Revolutionary War and the independence that was being fought for. One of the major arguments between these groups included the patriots feeling that the country would be better without being under the rule of Great Britain while the loyalists felt that this would lead to the demise of the country altogether.
The patriots didn't like that the British were taxing them without representation. This was the main reason, but there are many more reasons- most listed in the Declaration of Independence. For example, the British had taken full control over the colony's trading. The British were putting innocent people into trial and sometimes innocent people were even killed. They burned down homes and shot people.
