The general opinion at the time was that sub-Sahara Africa had little to offer of commercial interest, and what little there was could already be had by establishing a trading post on the coast. Postings there were highly unpopular too, as tropical diseases tended to kill at least 50% of all Europeans within a few months after arrival.

Where can you get a fennec fox?

connecticutThere is a directory of breeders in the U.S. It is possible to have a fennec shipped to you from most of these breeders (for a cost). You should buy one from a USDA licensed breeder in your country. If you live in the US, it is fairly easy to find breeders - but you must show them you are serious or they will not reply to you. Do your research first on laws, join the FennecFox listhost on Yahoo for more information, and make sure you know exactly what you are getting into before contacting a breeder.
