Their story is one of pure myth. Their first accomplishment is that they survived. They were found by the river and nursed by a wolf and fed by a woodpecker until the farmer named Faustulus took them in and raised them. Over time they avenged their family and both brothers founded a city next to each other. (exactly how they did this is unclear, but anything can happen in a myth.) There was an argument, either about the name of the city, the status of the city, who was to rule the city, which city was strongest, or just plain sibling rivalry. At any rate, Remus is said to have leaped over the wall of his brother's city and Romulus killed him, absorbed his brother's city and made the united cities into the capitol which was named after himself.
