Lobster was regarded as food for very poor people among the early English colonists to North America, and fed it to prisoners. It may be that the English of the Middle Ages regarded the food in much the same way.

the country, as a rule, does not eat lobster - in as much as a country cannot eat (although I hear that they can consume) but people in the UK do indeed eat lobster and many other forms of marine life.
