Yes, there were quite a few displaced citizens because after the war, Germany lost a lot of land, including land that they had before the war so all the people living In German towns (especially ones living near France) were displaced. These people either were killed, or they went back to Germany or they became a citizen of the country they were in. Jerman Jews were also displaced.

What were the initial reactions of citizens in the U.K. at the start of World War 1?

UK, and with every country in Europe at the time, felt that if war broke out, they would have ore to lose by not joining then by joining the war. With Germany newly united, and the US gaining economic power, the British Empire, and all other countries, was being threatened with being displaced as a world power; this in a time where there is no single dominant power. The British, France, Russia, Germany, and maybe even Austia-Hungry would claim to be a world power residing in Europe at this time. Due to rising nationalism, both the citizens and the government felt theat if war broke out, staying out of it would be more of a threat toward their repective countries power then joining the war. Also, at that time, there has not been a major war in over 100 years, and no one was expecting a long, devastating war.
