No one is sure. Right now the answer is possibly.

Hitler could have injected snake venom into President Von Hindenburg, and made his heart stop but, no one has been able to prove that. And the body of Von Hindenburg would be so dilapidated now that most science couldn't prove anything. But some people still believe so.

We could not know for certain. Officially, Hindenburg died of lung cancer. The only evidence, as far as I know, for Hitler killing him, is that Hitler stood to gain a lot from his death (i.e becoming Fuhrer). Hitler had also just carried out the Night of the Long Knives a few weeks earlier, so if he was willing to murder Röhm due to the possibility of him posing a threat to the Nazis, I could see him not being willing to wait around for Hindenburg to die. Then again, if Hindenburg was already dying of lung cancer, Hitler may have decided it would be easier to wait it out than murder him.

Was the German president in the 1930s Paul von Hindenburg?

Hindenburg was President until August 1933 when he died of lung cancer and Hitler was able to take the position of Fuhrer. Before Hindenburg’s death, Hitler was Chancellor, not president. He was Chancellor from January 1933, when Hindenburg appointed him Chancellor. Hitler was never President, unless you count Fuhrer role as president.

What was unique about the takeover of Germany by Hitler?

The takeover of Germany by Hitler was one of a kind because it was done legally by Von Hindenburg's appointment of Hitler to Chancellor. Later when President Von Hindenburg died in 1934, his office of President, meaning "head of State" was an election issue. Hitler, in 1934 ran for President and was elected. He then combined the office of Chancellor & President into one office. Chancellor meant head of the government, President meant Head of State. As President, Von Hindenburg could have removed Hitler from office. Failing to see that Hitler took over Germany legally creates false history.
