In the Civil War, they had just discovered bullets made by soft lead. When the lead made contact it would swell in size, leaving a larger hole on the way out than it made on the way in. Otherwise they used just plane rifle bullets-often with bayonets. The Civil War was not civil at all-in fact it was the most bloody war in American History. People were brutal and they wanted to make sure that the South/ North (depending on their respective sides) did not win. They were out for blood and they sure got it.
pretty sure the telegraph was invented during the civil war- and if not, than it was definitely used during the war
Nobody really knows for sure - estimates range from 150,000 to 190,000. In 1998 the figure was 50,000 which comes from Algeria: a study in competing ideologies by Kay Adamson
While it is not known for sure, the total would be in the tens of thousands. About two thirds of the deaths in the Civil War was due to disease including gangrene.
A husband is leaving his wife. They have been fighting. He wants to make sure there are no problems while he is moving his belongings out of the home. He can ask for a civil standby. The police come and "stand by" to make sure there are no problems. This is one example...but it should give you the idea.

I am not sure what century you are asking about but before modern history people traveled by foot, ship, horse, camels, cart, wagon, and mule.
Not sure to whom you are referring. The early settlers traveled by ship. After the introduction of transatlantic flights, people could choose between ships or planes.
